Do you want to audition for your dream job? Interested in exploring a different hospital before finishing your residency program? Vituity offers a catalog of one-month away rotations at select sites for senior residents in Emergency Medicine.

Our Academic Team guides residents through the rotation application and placement process. Senior residents gain hands-on experience through supervised patient care encounters. You’ll also get an insider look at Vituity’s unique physician-owned business model where local decision-making is backed by a national support structure. At Vituity, physicians are partners and every partner actively practices medicine—including all levels of leadership.

Residency rotations are available to senior residents in their final year of training. We currently have opportunities in Emergency Medicine with plans to expand to other specialties. Rotations are flexible, though usually one month in length with an average of 150 clinical hours.

AMITA Health Saint Joseph, Chicago, IL

This lakeview community hospital sees nearly 20,000 patients annually and participates in forward thinking psychiatric projects as well as opioid bridge programs. Join a close-knit group of ED physicians that practice in a state of the art 17 bed department. Though technically a community hospital, St. Joe’s has the benefit of working with residencies in General Surgery, OB/GYN, Podiatry, Internal Medicine, and Family Medicine.

AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center, Joliet, IL

Located one hour from Chicago, this hospital serves as a regional referral center due to advanced capabilities in many clinical specialties. The hospital is a thrombectomy-capable comprehensive stroke center with 24/7 neurosurgical coverage. The high-acuity ED sees 60,000 patients per year and is procedure-rich with a diverse patient population including a wide array of socioeconomic backgrounds. Medical students and PA/NP students rotate through the ED, however there are no competing residency programs.

Ascension via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, KS

A Level 1 Trauma Center, comprehensive stroke center, and accredited STEMI center with high patient acuity will give access to the most difficult, critical care cases. The hospital has a 37% admission rate and is located downtown. This site’s physicians will help develop your niche interests, whether it be in Ultrasound, Administration, Toxicology, Research, IT, EMS, and more. 

Banner Boswell Medical Center, Sun City, AZ

Located to the northwest of metropolitan Phoenix, this acute care hospital provides excellent patient care with a focus in cardiovascular, cardiothoracic and orthopedics. This location sees 47,000+ patients annually and offers a full range of medical/ surgical programs from urgent care to trauma care. Banner Boswell opened new state of the art emergency department in late 2020 and offers telemedicine capability in all rooms for consults and ED providers. This location is a future site for MD Anderson Cancer Center and Heart hospital.

Doctors Medical Center, Modesto, CA

Learn how to run a busy ED at this Level 2 trauma center ranked among the top 5% in the nation for heart attack treatment. This location sees approximately 100,000 patients a year, with an 18% hospital admission rate through the ED. This rotation is procedurally rich, as the department sees 100-150 monthly Trauma cases and is the largest full care hospital between Sacramento and Fresno and from the Sierras to the San Francisco Bay Area. DMC also serves as a designated Comprehensive Stroke Center with ECMO capability.

Dominican Hospital, Santa Cruz, CA

An ED rotation will allow you to sharpen and expand your skill sets across the entire spectrum of pathology and patient types at this high acuity, 222-bed, comprehensive medical site. Located on the Central California coast midway between San Francisco and Monterey, Dominican Hospital is nestled between the ocean and the redwood forests. The county has a population of over 250,000, a UC campus, and vibrant arts and music community. This location has a 24-bed Emergency Department which sees over 50,000 patients per year with an approximately 20% admission rate. The hospital is a certified Chest Pain Center, STEMI Receiving Center for the county, a certified Primary Stroke Center, and has ECMO and IR capabilities. It also is an EDAP, has a very active NICU, and treats the county’s underserved population.

Holy Cross Hospital, Chicago, IL

Located in the city of Chicago, Holy Cross Hospital’s Emergency Department delivers care for approximately 45,000 ED patients each year and is a certified Stroke Center serving both adult and pediatric patients. The Emergency Department enjoys community academics through teaching 4th-year medical students and also PA students that rotate through our department monthly. The hospital is affiliated with Sinai Chicago Health System which provides additional specialty services for patients that need a higher level of care.

Marian Regional Medical Center, Santa Maria, CA

As a Level 3 (soon to be Level 2) Trauma Center, Stroke & STEMI receiving center, with 41 ED beds, 65,000 patient visits each year, and a robust panel of consultants, Marian Regional is the perfect place to practice full spectrum emergency medicine. Because the patient population is largely LatinX, the ED has 24/7 Vituity Spanish Interpreters to assist with language translation. Located 1 hour north of Santa Barbara and 15 minutes from Pismo Beach along the central coast of California. Note: Option to stay with an attending during your rotation if interested, but you will need a car.

Mount Carmel Health, Columbus, OH

A full service, 250-bed hospital with an Emergency Department that sees about 65,000 patients each year. The hospital is home to a fully integrated cardiovascular center of excellence with open-heart capabilities, a Primary Stroke Center, and a dedicated Women’s Health Center. This site provides excellent exposure to community medicine with a good mixture of acuity and procedures. With a culture of education, this group prioritizes staying innovated and up to date on current Emergency medicine practices.

Natividad Medical Center, Salinas, CA

This County Hospital and Level II Trauma Center in Salinas, CA, is located near Monterey, Big Sur and Carmel. Founded in 1886, Natividad serves under-resourced members of the community. Natividad ED averages 145 patients and 3.5 Trauma activations daily and sees a wide variety of pathology. This hospital is the teaching facility for the Central Coast, with a UCSF-affiliated Family Medicine Residency and frequent Medical, PA, Nursing and EMT students rotating through the ED.

Queen of the Valley Hospital, West Covina, CA

Part of Emanate Health, Queen of the Valley offers a Family Medicine residency serving primarily Spanish and Chinese speaking communities in the Los Angeles area. This site provides emergency care to local communities across the San Gabriel Valley, treating more than 70,000 patients per year. Queen of the Valley is a Primary Stroke Center and Thrombectomy Capable Center with interventional radiology. In addition, Queen of the Valley is also an EDAP center with a labor and delivery unit in West Covina.

Saint Agnes Hospital, Baltimore, MD

Saint Agnes Hospital is a Catholic-based faith organization under the auspices of Ascension Health. This large 275-bed community hospital has both Internal Medicine and General Surgery residency programs. There is both an adult and separate pediatric ER with approximately 72,000 total visits per year. The patient population is largely from an underserved community, with a high level of acuity at the site. There is ample opportunity to learn about a broad range of illnesses and participate in procedures including LPs, central line and arterial line placement, paracentesis, ultrasound-guided peripheral line placement, and intubation.

Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, CA

This urban hospital earned a Baby-Friendly Hospital designation and offers a large pediatric program treating the area’s underserved population. This location sees 100,000 patients per year with over 50 ED beds. This site is one of two Pediatric ED’s in the Bay Area serving over 25,000 pediatric patients yearly. In addition to having a PICU/NICU, Sutter Medical Center is known for their pediatric cardiac program. As the heart transplant center for the region, this hospital works closely with the LVAD, transplant, and heart failure clinics.

Tahoe Forest Hospital, Truckee, CA

Tahoe Forest Hospital is a busy Level IV Trauma and Critical Access Hospital located near the north shore of Lake Tahoe and nestled in the Sierra Nevada mountains. As the only hospital in the area, we offer a unique experience of rural emergency medicine as well as a unique mix of summer and winter injuries. it is a mecca for snow and summer sports. This hospital sees a high volume of orthopedic reductions, lacerations, and trauma activations as well as environmental injuries from lightning strikes, carbon monoxide, heat/cold exposure, avalanche, submersion, and rogue fishhooks. This elective is only available to senior emergency medicine residents in June-September and December-March.
