EMERYVILLE, Calif., November 27, 2018 – Vituity is proud to play a key role in working with Adventist Health to reopen the Tulare Regional Medical Center. On October 15, 2018, Vituity started providing Emergency and Hospital Medicine services to the hospital and its community in California’s Central Valley.
Now part of the Adventist Health network, the 112-bed Tulare Regional Medical Center recently reopened after nearly a year of closure due to financial problems. Local residents once again have access to an acute care hospital in their community, and are no longer limited to the next-closest facility 15 miles away. Vituity currently provides a variety of acute care services to 12 Adventist Health locations, and is pleased to extend its proven emergency medicine and hospitalist services to support the acute care needs of Tulare and neighboring communities in the Central Valley.
The hospital reopened with nine basic services – emergency, inpatient medical surgical services, telemetry, intensive care, emergency surgery, anesthesia, pharmacy, nutritional services, medical imaging and lab. As the provider of integrated Emergency and Hospitalist Medicine, Vituity plays a key role in delivering many of these services.
Vituity’s Chief Executive Offer, Imamu Tomlinson, MD, also a practicing physician leader at Adventist Health Selma, spoke about the partnership, “As someone well acquainted with the exceptional leadership at Adventist Health, I’m honored to expand our partnership with the re-opening of Tulare Regional Medical Center for an under-served patient population.”
As the new operator of Tulare Regional Medical Center, Adventist Health was chosen amongst other healthcare organizations due to its proven track record of turning around struggling hospitals. As a large healthcare system with 20 hospitals in the Western U.S. it is ranked among the largest 5 nonprofit healthcare systems in California.
Adventist has hired 260 people, many of them former Tulare hospital employees, and is planning for more staff to join the team in coming months. “We are committed to the community for a very, very long time,” said Andrea Kofl, president of Adventist Central Valley Network, which oversees the hospitals in the San Joaquin Valley.
Vituity’s Vice President, Thomas Lukaszczyk, MD, expressed his excitement about this opportunity to deliver acute care services to a community that was without close access to hospital care for almost a year. He stated that “the physician leadership at Vituity is proud to be part of the long-anticipated re-opening of Tulare Regional Medical Center, and eager to implement our best practices in emergency medicine and hospitalist care.”
“Tulare Regional Medical Center is ready to deliver exceptional care once again, which in large part is due to strong physician leadership team at Vituity,” says Randy Dodd, Vice President of Business Development for Adventist Health in Central California, and interim executive for the hospital. “With an excellent track record at other Adventist Health sites, Vituity was an obvious choice to partner with us as we revitalize our emergency medicine and hospitalist teams. Vituity’s spirit of integrated care delivery and innovative approach to the top challenges facing healthcare today are exactly what we need as we open our doors to an exciting new chapter in our history.”
For nearly 50 years, Vituity has been developing best practices to ensure hospitals are able to care for patients effectively. Through a physician-led and collaborative approach, Vituity’s acute care services engage providers and deliver an integrated care experience for patients through robust quality programs that emphasize collaboration, communication, and accountability.
